Classical Guitar Vs. Acoustic Guitar?

cupcake asked:

I am going to be a beginner guitarist and I am searching for a good guitar to buy at a reasonable price. what is the difference between an acoustic guitar and a classical guitar? what size guitar should I get if I am 5’2? should I get the 3/4 size or the 4/4 size? For a beginner is it better to get a hard top guitar or a laminate top? what is a good brand of guitar to buy. How is the brand Lucida? Thanks for your help!

If you plan on playing pop or rock, buy acoustic. If you’ll be playing finger style with classical songs, buy a classical guitar

I would get a acoustic 4/4 size doesn’t really matter if its hard or laminate, but in my opinion hard top ages better, thus producing better sound as the years go by. You should go check out a guitar center if you have one or any music shop and just see which guitar has the best feel for you.

It is all personal preference, my friend. I was given an old classical guitar handed down from my mom for my first guitar. It was super easy to learn on, because the strings are fairly limber. The only harder part of it is that the fret board on a classical guitar is wider than on an acoustic. The sound of a classical guitar is more rich than an acoustic, as in it has a deeper sound. An acoustic is more of a sharper, crisper sound. The acoustic guitars have steel strings which makes them extremely hard on your fingers. Classical guitars have nylon strings, which are much softer and easier to press down/ move around on. I highly recommend not getting anything too expensive for your first guitar, because if you decide you don’t like playing, you have just wasted a lot of money. Plus, you wouldn’t be experienced enough to really appreciate it. You should go to a guitar shop to try out different sizes. Nothing is worse than having a guitar that is uncomfortable to play. I don’t know about other brands of guitars, but I have a Martin and It is amazing. Hope this helps!
