How do guitarists remember the notes for 10 min guitar solos?

heyheysg asked:

Classical Musicians have the sheets some times but sometimes they don’t.

I can’t imagine clapton or slash practicing for hours before the concert, but apparently they do?

A lot of the time I just freewheel using the key that the song is written in. As long as you know that and know how to progress and keep it going you’ll be ok.

    I don’t know.
How DDR experts remember the inputs for nearly every song in the game(s)?

As for your question, my guesses are…
    - Sheer will power
    - Write notes on inside of eyelids
    - Practice
    - Evil space bats are involved somehow

Speaking from my very occasional trips up to the stage during jams as a harp player, everyone seems to play the basic melody at first then they just wing it on the solos. I’ve heard some pretty decent musicians who just play what they feel. When I can get into a song, the notes just seem to flow and I don’t really know where they come from.

they just do. They memorize the music, just like they do for all of their songs. did you ever think that they have to memorize that stuff just like all of the other stuff that they play. I play the clarinet and after a while you just remember it subconsciously.

Rather than learning specific notes, a guitarist learns scales and keys. If you remember what scale and in what key the song is in you can’t go wrong. It reduces the whole fret board down to about 8 notes straight away. Some people can play a scale in all 12 keys and in all positions across the fret board, some people learn just a few keys and a couple of positions and the effect can be equally amazing.
